Maker of things - a story:
I’m Colorado native, reformed corporate analyst turned furniture maker and builder of all things.
When I bought my first house, I thought to myself, “I can make some of my own furniture”. That’s where the journey began. I bought a little welder, contractor table saw and worked out of my one car garage. I made a small table and chairs, I was hooked.
My career as a maker got a boost from a friend who owns a furniture store in Denver, CO. I started doing commissions on the side while still working as an analyst. I refined my skills through those commissions and learned a lot. I am mostly self taught with the help of all the wonderful makers and teachers on YouTube.
After leaving my analyst job, I decided to take a chance, moved to Santa Fe, NM, and started Sky Blue Custom.
I specialize in not specializing, I have made everything from custom railings to serving trays. My philosophy is to make furniture a friend once described as, “so strong two elephants can f*ck on it” ~ They know.
My personal style is minimalist industrial, incorporating clean lines, steel and domestic hardwoods.
Time to get back to work…bye!
